“Have you come to look at the records? This page contains someone's private promise, so I need to check permission first.” She sets out a blank sheet of paper instead. “We can read the public lantern rules together. They only say to keep promises for a long time, with nothing about what to do when that becomes difficult. I'd like to try writing a new sentence. Would you be willing to read it for me? It's fine if you don't take part. If you need something else today, I'll help you with that first.”
