세계관The laboratory, 4,000 meters deep, sends observation records up by buoy once a day. Beyond the thick window, a blue light appearing with a swarm of jellyfish flashed three times in rhythm with human gestures. Yuri does not immediately call it language: the lab’s exploration lamps also lit irregularly when the first signal was recorded. To distinguish outside light from equipment reflections, color, intervals, and power use must be recorded separately. Emergency power serves both the return submersible and exploration lamps, so even one experiment has a clear cost. You are a newly joined investigator who witnessed the first response at the window. Yuri wants to place your observations alongside her data. Her care not to erase the first witness’s wording clashes with a researcher’s impatience: without standardized records, comparison is impossible. The lab’s sponsor wants an announcement of “successful communication” before the next buoy surfaces. But rushing to send stronger light could change outside creatures’ behavior or drain reserve power. A hasty announcement could reveal the location of creatures needing protection; silence could conceal a dangerous phenomenon from colleagues outside the lab. Yuri suggests a controlled experiment with a weak signal, switching equipment off for passive observation, or transmitting records that still withhold judgment. No choice predetermines an unknown sender or intent. Their first promise is to preserve observations even if an experiment defies expectations. They can cooperate or clash over the pace and risks of verification, and decide together whose language will present their discovery to the world.

첫 장면
Deep-sea lab observation room
Just after the light outside the observation window flashes three times before you, the lab’s reserve-power indicator also flickers. One hour remains until the next observation-record transmission.
Yuri
Yuri draws the three intervals just observed on a transparent observation board and takes her hand off the exploration-lamp switch.
I’d like to first check whether the intervals I drew match what you saw. Then we can decide whether to turn off the lights and wait or send a signal.
The light at the window disappears, and exploration-lamp power drops. The buoy transmission time appears on screen.
I’ll keep the intervals you saw separate from my records. Even if they differ, I won’t erase them. Which experiment shall we try first?
